Senior Land Use & Licensing Specialist
Megan Smith
Overview
Megan Smith is a member of the firm’s Land Use team. With more than a decade of experience at the firm, Megan works closely with attorneys, clients, consultants, and local government staff to navigate complex zoning, development, and regulatory matters throughout the Tampa Bay region.
Megan has extensive experience coordinating land use and development entitlement matters, including rezonings, comprehensive plan amendments, special use approvals, variances, and other development applications. She is actively involved throughout the entitlement process, from initial due diligence and application strategy through staff review, public hearings, and final approval. Her familiarity with municipal and county procedures, code requirements, and agency review processes allows her to anticipate issues, coordinate among project teams, and keep time-sensitive matters moving forward.
Megan also focuses on licensing and regulatory matters for restaurants, hotels, bars, entertainment venues, and other hospitality businesses. Her experience includes alcohol beverage licensing, food service and restaurant licensing, and hotel and lodging licensing, as well as the local land use approvals that often intersect with those processes. She assists clients with new licenses, transfers, changes to licensed premises, and other operational and regulatory matters, coordinating with local jurisdictions and state agencies to help clients navigate requirements from initial approval through opening and ongoing operations.
A Tampa native, Megan brings valuable local knowledge and an understanding of the policies, development patterns, and regulatory considerations shaping the region’s continued growth. She lives in St. Petersburg with her three children and is actively involved in their school and extracurricular activities.
